Nathan Bradburn awarded Fillmore Riley Indigenous Scholarship & Internship

Nathan Bradburn, an RRC Polytech student, has been awarded the 2025 Fillmore Riley Indigenous Scholarship and Internship. The scholarship is an initiative of Fillmore Riley's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.

Nathan is enrolled in the Pathway to Business, Creative Communications and Digital Technology program. The pathway program is designed for Indigenous Manitobans who have not had the opportunity to participate in post-secondary education. After completing the program, Nathan can apply for limited reserved seats in Business Administration, Creative Communications, Digital Media Design or Hospitality Business Management.

"We interviewed many impressive candidates. We congratulate Nathan for being the recipient of the scholarship,” said Delaney Vun, a partner at Fillmore Riley and the chair of the DEI Committee.

In addition to receiving a $5,000 scholarship for the 2025-26 school year, Nathan will also gain hands-on experience in the operations of a professional services firm through the part-time paid internship at Fillmore Riley.

The internship will expose Nathan to the operations of an office environment. He will work with professionals in various disciplines, including law, human resources, finance, technology and marketing.

Nathan learned about the internship opportunity through his employment counsellor at Neeginan Education, Training and Employment Services.

“I was looking for summer employment after being accepted into the program at RRC,” Nathan said. “The internship really caught my eye because I thought it'd be a great opportunity to get some hands-on experience in a professional workplace environment.”

Nathan owns a graphic design business that focuses on creating visual content for Indigenous businesses and organizations. Although Nathan feels confident about his technical skills and creativity, he’s looking forward to developing his formal business communication skills at Fillmore Riley.

“Getting exposure to a professional office environment will be an invaluable experience for me. I aim to develop strong, formal communication skills and gain insight into workflows and business formalities in a real-world setting. I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”

Nathan was born and raised in Norway House Cree Nation. He stays connected with his community through his work with Norway House Cree Nation (NHCN) Economic Development Group, located in Winnipeg. The NHCN Economic Development Group aims to grow and support locally owned businesses for the community of Norway House.

Nathan’s summer job as Marketing Support Officer involved preparing marketing materials for events, creating graphics for social media, taking photographs, and assisting Indigenous entrepreneurs and small businesses with logo design and branding.

“During my studies at RRC Polytech and the internship with Fillmore Riley, I'll be continuing to work with NHCN Economic Development Group through contract opportunities as well. I really enjoy working with other entrepreneurs and hearing their journeys that led them to pursue their business ideas.”
