Accounting Clerk - Term Position

Fillmore Riley LLP is a highly regarded and accomplished full-service law firm located in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. Our firm has been entrusted to work on some of the most complex and sophisticated transactions and litigation involving Canada's most prominent companies, institutions and individuals.
We have an opening for an Accounting Clerk for a term position. As a member of the Fillmore Riley Finance Team the Accounting Clerk provides day to day bookkeeping activities that allows for the accurate and timely recognition of the firms financial transactions.
Responsibilities
- Daily bank account reconciliations
- Daily monitoring, reconciliation and entering of purchasing card transactions.
- Assist in the processing of invoices into the accounting system for payment.
- Assist in the uploading of financial transactions to client files.
- Assist in the preparation of cash disbursements using either cheques or electronic payments.
- Obtaining authorization for cash disbursements.
- Analyze discrepancies and unpaid invoices
- Assist in month end reporting procedures
- Use accounting data to resolve accounting problems and discrepancies
- Track and audit petty cash
- Provide support to other team and firm members as required.
- Assist with employee expense reports
- Perform filing and general administrative tasks
- Other projects and duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will gain experience and exposure to various operational departments within our firm, such as accounting, marketing, and IT. It will be an opportunity to learn how a professional services firm operates, and a chance to work with staff, managers, and lawyers in the field.
Responsibilities
- Assist department members with specialized projects.
- Attend department meetings.
- Assist our Copy Centre Technician in creating closing books.
- Under the guidance of the Corporate Team Lead file minute books.
- Scan and save documents to our Document Management System.
- Job shadow with members of our Management team and COO

Litigation Legal Assistant

We have an immediate opening for a Litigation Legal Assistant.
Responsibilities
- Perform all administrative accounting tasks, such as file opening, conflict searches, time entry, e-billing, cheque requisitions, trust deposits, etc.
- Arrange service of documents with process server
- Prepare legal documents based on instructions by lawyer and by referring to precedents, where required
- Keep records of matter status and communicate status to client as directed by lawyer
- Draft correspondence including demand letters
- Proofread and edit all documents for grammar, spelling and content accuracy
- Assist with general practice office management, including filing, scheduling meetings and court dates
Core Competencies
- Three or more years experience as litigation legal assistant
- Exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Possess strong computer and organizational skills
