Fillmore Riley’s Motion to Strike Cancer takes CancerCare Manitoba’s Virtual Challenge for Life

Fillmore Riley’s 16-member team, Motion to Strike Cancer, has committed to raising money for CancerCare Manitoba through our participation in the 2020 Virtual Challenge for Life. The firm is also a sponsor of the event.

From August 1 through 20, 2020, each member of Motion to Strike Cancer will be participating in a unique physical challenge to reach individual milestones of 20 kilometres or 200 minutes of workout activities. Each member has also committed to fundraising a minimum of $250.

We selected a team name that’s appropriate for our profession. In court, a motion to strike is a procedural device made by a party to have an entire cause of action removed or “stricken” from the court record. Fillmore Riley’s Motion to Strike Cancer wants to see cancer-stricken or eradicated.

“Even though we will not be able to walk together as a team at this year’s Challenge for Life, we are united by our common goal of raising money for CancerCare Manitoba,” said Stuart Blake, a partner of Fillmore Riley and a member of the Board of Directors at CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. “Cancer affects almost everyone and our involvement in Challenge for Life is one of the ways we give back to our community.”

With a fundraising target of more $1 million, Challenge for Life is CancerCare Manitoba Foundation’s flagship event. All funds raised stay right here in Manitoba and go towards patient care, research, treatment and clinical trials.

Through our past involvement in the Challenge for Life Walk and the Dragon Boat Festival, we have raised more than $300,000 that went towards helping Manitobans affected by cancer.
