Fillmore Riley congratulates Norman Yusim on his retirement

The team at Fillmore Riley congratulates Norman Yusim on his well-earned retirement.

Norman's career as a family lawyer spans 43 years. He joined Fillmore Riley in 1988 and led the family law practice for more than three decades.

Known as a preeminent family lawyer, Norm acted as a tireless advocate for his clients. Norm was named 2024 and 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” for family law in Winnipeg by Best Lawyers and a "Best Lawyer" from 2013 to present — a recognition that he is held in high esteem by his peers.

Norm gave back to his profession in significant ways. He was a member of the Manitoba Lawyer Assistance Program fostered by the Manitoba Bar Association, and he has been appointed by the Law Society of Manitoba to conduct practice reviews of other lawyers. He also sat on the Law Society of Manitoba President’s Special Committee on Regulating Legal Entities and he is on the board of Family Arbitration and Mediation Institute Inc. (FAMLI), an association of lawyers and other professionals dedicated to helping individuals and families resolve their family law disputes outside the court system through mediation and/or arbitration.

Committed to making legal services and education accessible, he sat on numerous boards, including for the Family Arbitration and Mediation Institute Inc. and Legal Aid Manitoba. Along with a close-knit group of Robson Hall alumni, Norm also created a bursary for Indigenous law students attending the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba.

Although Norm will no longer practise law, he will continue to sit on the board of the Community Legal Education Association. The firm recognizes his profound commitment to his work and the community. We will miss his zany sense of humour and his big heart. We wish him all the best in his retirement.
