Biography

Kalev is a commercial litigator with a focus on contentious insolvency matters.

He acts for financial institutions and private lenders, including the region’s leading banks and credit unions, in bankruptcy, arrangement and reorganization proceedings. He has extensive experience with creditor/debtor disputes, debt enforcement and foreclosure. He also regularly acts for trustees, investors and commercial landlords. He has appeared before trial and appellate courts in Manitoba, British Columbia, Ontario and before the Tax Court of Canada.

Kalev returned to his native Manitoba and joined Fillmore Riley in 2020, having practised with leading insolvency and litigation boutique firms in Vancouver and Toronto. He is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg and Osgoode Hall Law School and was a longstanding contributing author to the bankruptcy and insolvency chapter of the Legal Education Society of British Columbia’s Annual Review of Law and Practice. He is admitted to the Bar in Manitoba, Ontario and British Columbia.
