Biography

Dan's practice focuses on corporate/commercial law, intellectual property and technology law.

Dan’s broad corporate and commercial experience includes transactions in share acquisitions and sales, commercial asset acquisitions and sales, and secured lending. He assists both start-ups and established businesses with their various business needs.

His intellectual property experience includes developing and implementing intellectual property strategies, drafting and negotiating licenses and intellectual property-related agreements, and conducting due diligence on target intellectual property in mergers and acquisitions. As a member of Fillmore Riley's trademarks practice group, Dan regularly assists clients with trademark matters and is currently pursuing his trademark agent designation with the federally regulated College of Patent Agents and Trademark Agents.

On the technology side, Dan regularly drafts, reviews, and advises on contracts relating to procurement or licensing of various technologies, including software and artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, Dan conducts legal research, provides opinions on, and assists clients with regulatory and legal issues such as privacy law, marketing, anti-spam legislation, and advertising, such as influencer marketing and greenwashing.

He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Winnipeg, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (gold medallist) and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (gold medallist). He has received several scholarships and distinctions for his exceptional academic performance, including placing on the Dean's Honour List for placing in the top 10% of third-year law students and receiving the Maitland Steinkopf Entrance Scholarship to the Faculty of Law. He was also a recipient of the Tallman Foundation Scholarship.

Dan is fluent in English and Filipino.
