The Manitoba government and Manitoba Building Trades sign landmark jobs agreement

Overview

The Manitoba government signed an inaugural Manitoba Jobs Agreement (MJA) with Manitoba Building Trades aimed at generating jobs in the province, beginning with the construction of four new schools.

The MJA is a major step towards establishing a new policy that prioritizes local labour on infrastructure projects $50 million or more.  Among other community benefits, the MJA will set standards for wages, benefits, working conditions, equity employment, as well as training and apprenticeships.

Fillmore Riley served as counsel for the Manitoba Building Trades toward establishing the MJA framework and negotiating with the Manitoba government toward its ratification.
