Fillmore Riley congratulates recent retirees

The team at Fillmore Riley congratulates Anita Southall, David Skwark, Mike Dow and Marcelin Murray on their recent retirements.

Anita's distinguished 35-year career garnered her recognition as one of the province's leading counsel for sophisticated estate litigation and administrative law. She is a life bencher and the past President of the Law Society of Manitoba. In 2021, the Manitoba Bar Association named Anita the recipient of the Isabel Ross MacLean Hunt Award, which honours role models for women lawyers in Manitoba.

After joining the firm in 1982, David became known as a formidable litigator in the fields of construction law, professional discipline and banking litigation as well as general civil litigation. David was recognized by Benchmark Litigation as a leading construction litigator and as "Lawyer of the Year" in Winnipeg for that field in the 2020, 2021 and 2024 editions of Best Lawyers in Canada.

Mike's practice spanned four decades as he established himself as a leading bankruptcy and insolvency lawyer in Manitoba. He fostered Fillmore Riley's longstanding ties with the Royal Bank of Canada in Manitoba and was frequently listed in legal directories as a leading practitioner for banking and financial services matters.

Marcelin practised family law at the firm for nearly 24 years. She was a key contributor to the well-being of the practice of family law in Manitoba, as an instructor in family law matters for the Law Society of Manitoba and with service on the boards of Collaborative Practice Manitoba and the Family Arbitration/Mediation Legal Institute. She also acted as Vice Chair of the Family Law Subsection of the Manitoba Bar Association.

All four lawyers made significant contributions to Fillmore Riley's culture in mentorship and leadership roles over the years. We will miss them around the office but they all will remain a part of the Fillmore Riley family. We wish them all the best in their well-deserved retirements.
