Fillmore Riley congratulates Charles Sherbo on his retirement

The team at Fillmore Riley LLP congratulates Charles Sherbo on his well-deserved retirement.

Charles's career spans 46 years. He joined Fillmore Riley in 1983 and developed a reputation as one of the preeminent insurance lawyers in Manitoba. His clients included all major Canadian, several significant American and many specialty insurers. Several of his cases are well-known precedents in insurance law.

Charles was listed as a "Best Lawyer" since 2006, and was named the 2017 and 2020 "Lawyer of the Year" for insurance law in Winnipeg by Best Lawyers. He was also routinely recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory. These awards further recognize Charles's skill and reputation as a thorough, prepared and persuasive insurance lawyer.

In addition to maintaining a busy and complex insurance practice, Charles devoted his time to the legal community as a sessional instructor teaching insurance law at the University of Manitoba law school. He was also a founding member and past President of the Risk Management Counsel of Canada, a national association of independent law firms who work together to handle multi-jurisdictional insurance law matters. 

Within Fillmore Riley, Charles acted as a strong mentor to other lawyers, imparting the most crucial aspects of practice management, client relations, advocacy and the importance of well-written court materials and reports.
