STEP Canada recognizes Eleanor Wiebe as 2020 ‘Volunteer of the Year’ for Winnipeg Branch

STEP Canada recently announced that Eleanor Wiebe is the “Volunteer of the Year” winner for the Winnipeg Branch.

STEP's objectives include raising the public profile of trust and estate work as a profession. A key element of STEP's ongoing mandate is to provide a forum for discussion and advancement of practitioner knowledge of relevant tax, accounting, administration, statute and case law through regular branch seminars and symposia. STEP Canada also hosts an annual conference.

“We had to think out of the box in 2020 to find new ways to keep members connected and to deliver engaging online seminars,” said Eleanor who practised in the area of trusts and estates at Fillmore Riley LLP for 34 years. “STEP Winnipeg has been around since 1999 and plays a vital role in keeping professionals on the leading edge of developments in trusts and estates.”

Eleanor has a long history of giving back to her profession. She has not only contributed to the legal community in Manitoba, but she has also travelled to Southeast Asia to teach lawyers in Laos and Cambodia. Eleanor helped lawyers develop skills in evolving legal systems.

She won the Manitoba Bar Association’s 2018 Distinguished Service Award for her distinguished and impressive legal career, including her many contributions to the legal profession and in the wider community.

Eleanor continues to volunteer in her community.
