Community

When you need someone committed to you, and your community.

Fillmore Riley has a long legacy of civic duty and volunteerism. As Manitobans, we proudly live, work, sponsor, volunteer and donate time and resources to worthy causes and professional associations.

Whether it’s serving on the boards of charitable organizations and public companies, coaching community sports teams or contributing to local fundraising campaigns, we take pride in supporting Manitoba and its livelihood.

We are a significant and long-time supporter of CancerCare Manitoba. In addition to our financial commitment and providing legal services, we participate in the Challenge for Life walk and long-term volunteering, including sitting on the board, in support of CancerCare Manitoba’s work.

We also hold an employee fundraising drive to encourage donations to the United Way. The two-week campaign increases awareness of the community agencies that the United Way sponsors. Year-over-year, we exceed our fundraising targets.

We support Robson Hall, the law school at the University of Manitoba, by sponsoring an annual negotiation competition and our lawyers devote countless hours volunteering as judges and as guest lecturers. We also created the Fillmore Riley Endowment Fund to offer assistance to students following graduation from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. The objective of the award is to provide students with debt relief on personal bank loans or lines of credit incurred to support their legal studies at Robson Hall.

These examples are important to us, but the best reflections of our stake in our community as legal professionals are the hundreds of hours Fillmore Riley lawyers devote each year to free legal advice and representation for community groups, charities and individuals in need of assistance.
