Failure to take reasonable safety precautions can result in hefty fines.

Kirk Vilks published “Instruction, Information, Supervision” in the Q2 2016 issue of Piling Canada.

Kirk discusses a judgement, R. v. Sunrise Propane Energy, 2016 CarswellOnt 3399, that pertained to an incident that caused propane explosions in Toronto in 2008 that killed a young worker and caused a fire. The lesson gleaned from the judgement is that failure to take safety precautions, including giving all personnel adequate training and keeping records of the training, can result in steep fines.
