Fillmore Riley LLP commits to raise contributions to CancerCare Manitoba to more than $110,000.

With a team of almost 50 walkers and fundraising volunteers behind Challenge for Life 2.0, Fillmore Riley has committed to raise serious funds for CancerCare Manitoba.

Through the firm’s past participation in the Challenge for Life Walk and the Dragon Boat Festival, we have raised almost $90,000 that went towards helping Manitobans of all ages affected by cancer. Fillmore Riley’s 2016 goal is to raise at least $20,000, bringing the total funds raised to $110,000.

Fillmore Riley selected a name that’s appropriate for our profession. In court, a motion to strike is a legal motion made by a party to have an entire cause of action removed or “stricken” from the court record. Team Fillmore Riley’s Motion to Strike Cancer wants to see cancer stricken or eradicated so no community has to deal with the ravages of the disease.

“We have a longstanding tradition of giving back to the community,” said Managing Partner Glen Peters. “We wanted to get behind a cause that has a far-reaching impact. Unfortunately, most of us have been touched by cancer. The funds we raise for CancerCare Manitoba will go towards prevention through education, early detection, state-of-the-art research, and world-class treatment and patient support.”

Fillmore Riley’s Motion to Strike Cancer has 28 participants who have each committed to raise $500 and either “walk it” or “work it” on June 11, 2016. With the help of our fundraising team, Motion to Strike Cancer will exceed the $14,000 minimum we must raise as participants.

“You can feel the excitement growing around our office,” said General Manager Nicolle Brockie. “We all have a personal connection to this cause and we are passionate about making a difference in the lives of Manitobans.”

Held in Assiniboine Park, Challenge for Life 2.0 is one of CancerCare Manitoba’s major fundraisers. The newly revamped event offers participants two options: they can either Walk It (a 20K walk through Winnipeg’s most beautiful neighbourhoods) or Work It (a 200-minute workout with options such as Zumba, aerobics and yoga). In addition to participating in the event as walkers and fundraisers, Fillmore Riley will sponsor and host a tent beside the Work It area, providing food and beverages to participants.

Challenge for Life is a powerful annual event. Every year hundreds of Manitobans come together to raise serious funds for a serious cause. Since its inception in 2008, nearly $8 million has been raised. All proceeds stay in Manitoba.
