Employment and Labour Law Practice Scope We are involved in the negotiating and drafting of employment contracts, providing advice on employment issues and in structuring or assessing termination packages. Litigation arising out of employment relationships require us to appear before the Courts in civil matters such as actions for wrongful dismissal, before adjudicative tribunals under Human Rights or Canada Labour Code legislation, and before administrative tribunals regarding matters such as employment standards or workers' compensation. Our Labour Law Practice Group, dealing with the relationship between employers and organized labour, represents employers and employees in negotiating and interpreting collective agreements, and in grievance or arbitration proceedings where disputes arise. This group also becomes actively involved in applications before the Manitoba Labour Board in matters arising under The Labour Relations Act, including those relating to certification and disputes arising during the bargaining process. While most disputes in this area involve appearances at arbitration or before the Labour Board (both provincial and federal), members of this group do appear before the Courts in actions such as those involving judicial review of arbitration awards.
