Spirit of giving happens year-round at Fillmore Riley.

The spirit of giving doesn’t just come once a year at Fillmore Riley—it happens year-round.
From raising almost $23,000 for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation to participating in The Christmas Cheer Board’s Feed-a-Family program, Fillmore Riley poured a lot of heart and soul into supporting its community throughout 2010.
“One of our core values is to be a positive contributor to our community,” said managing partner Glen Peters. “We do that by being active participants in local fundraising campaigns and creating our own initiatives.”
For instance, Fillmore Riley holds “casual days” where each employee donates to a particular charity to dress casually. In 2010, Fillmore Riley raised more than $2,500 that went to 10 different charities.
“It is a longstanding tradition at our firm,” said general manager Nicolle Brockie. “Every year we canvas our employees so that we give to charities that are personally meaningful to them.”
The firm also actively promotes an annual employee fundraising campaign for the United Way. The two-week campaign consists of fun events—such as game shows, candy jar guessing games and 50/50 draws—that raise funds and increase awareness of the community agencies sponsored by the United Way.
“We had a fantastic committee this year. Some members have been involved for as many as 14 years,” said Dean Giles, the chair of the United Way Committee and a partner with the firm. “That means every year we raise the bar higher and higher,”
In addition to raising $2,300 through events, many individuals make significant donations through payroll deduction year-round.
