Fillmore Riley welcomes Iain McDonald into the partnership.
The partners of Fillmore Riley LLP congratulate Iain McDonald on his admission to partnership effective January 1, 2019.
Iain practises primarily in the areas of corporate and commercial law with an emphasis on commercial real estate transactions and mergers and acquisitions. He also maintains a general commercial practice providing advice to multinational corporations and owner-operated businesses on a variety of commercial matters. Iain is an integral part of Fillmore Riley’s corporate-commercial department.
Becoming a partner at Fillmore Riley is a recognition of hard work, exceptional lawyering and teamwork. “Since Iain began articling with Fillmore Riley in 2011, he has had an exceptional work ethic and an ability to work on matters of all levels of complexity, whether individually or as part of a team,” said Glen Peters, the managing partner of Fillmore Riley. “Iain has worked hard to establish himself as an integral part of our corporate-commercial department and we’re pleased to welcome him into the partnership.”
Over the last seven years, Iain has worked closely with Tim Dewart, a senior partner with Fillmore Riley who is well known in Winnipeg’s business community for his work on complex transactions and large mid-market deals. “Iain takes an old-school approach to practising law. If a transaction requires a significant and intense time commitment to close, Iain will not stop until the deal is done,” said Tim. “It has been my pleasure to serve as Iain’s mentor.”
Iain makes the time to contribute to his profession and give back to the community. As a member of the Manitoba Bar Association’s (MBA) Mid-Winter Planning Committee from 2014-2018, Iain helped organize the MBA’s premier annual conference for lawyers’ continuing professional development. He is an account executive for the United Way and provides leadership for Fillmore Riley’s internal fundraising initiatives. He was also involved with the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Innovators—a program that engages the next generation of philanthropists to fund the highest-priority needs.
Iain earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Manitoba in 2011 and received his call to the Manitoba Bar in 2012. He also earned a Bachelor of Recreation Management & Community Development from the University of Manitoba in 2007.
